1. Symbol of Recognition

First off, you have to have a least 3 trains in order to join. You must seek out a Master of the Order. They can then invite you to join. In order to reach the Voln Monastery, from the inside of the Amaranth Gate, travel: go gate, nw, nw, go bridge, nw, nw, n, nw, n, nw, search, go crevasse, n, n, nw, nw, n, n, nw, n, nw, e, go path, n. Thanks to Rumor for directions.

This step honors the good Lord Tonis. Symbol of Recognition allows you to see who other members of Voln are, and allows you to differentiate between regular members and masters of the order. It will also allow you to recognize which critters are undead. This symbol requires no favor.

2. Symbol of Blessing

Start at Victory gate by the guardsman. Travel sw, sw, sw, sw, sw, s, go track, n, go door, e.  Here you need to search machinery until you get:

You search around by the abandoned machinery and beam at your new-found salvaged treasure.

Now you must go to the Weaponry back in town.  Travel w, go door, s, go track, n, ne, ne, go bridge, ne, ne, go gate, e, e, e, e, e, e, n, e, n, go weaponry.  Give metal to Aerhseth, and your task is complete.  Head back to your voln monk. Thanks to Derezz.

Symbol of Blessing is used in the following manner: symbol of blessing my [weapon name]. It is only effective against regular non-enchanted and non-magical weapons. It does NOT work on aqua wands like the blessing spell does. If you choose any other type of object or person, special messaging will apply, but has no effect and costs no favor. It will bless your weapon for approximately 2 times per steps plus your level. The cost of this symbol is 12 levels of favor.

3. Symbol of Thought

Oleani is the patron lady for this step along the path. From Victory Court travel west, west, west, Through the southwest gate, southwest, southwest, southwest, southwest, go path, then west or northeast. From here, FORAGE FOR BLEEDING ROSE until you find one. Return to Victory Court and find the marker by travelling east, east, east, north, east, north, north, north, north, north, north, west, north, go through the northeast gate, northeast, northeast, northeast, northeast, northeast, northeast, go path, north, northeast, northwest, north. You should see a marker here. Drop the rose. Thanks to Vencronius and Rathburne.

Symbol of thought can be rather annoying at times (especially if you play Gemstone Prime). You cannot block thoughts from other members if you are in range unless you possess a seashell (or other thought disruption tool) or tkaro root. The proper use of this symbol is: symbol of thought [message]. The message length maximum is 255 characters. The cost of this symbol is 12 levels of favor.

4. Symbol of Recovery

Lord Cholen is the patron of this symbol.  You must make some people happy for Cholen.  Directions from Amaranth Gate: Go gate, nw, nw, go bride, nw, nw, nw, n, nw, n, nw, n, nw, search, go crevasse, n, n, nw, nw, n, n, nw, n, nw, nw, n, n (wait on ferry to arrive and gangplank to drop), go gangplank, (wait for ferry to cross lake), out, go path, nw, nw, nw, w, nw, nw, nw, w, w, nw, nw, nw, n, n, nw, nw, nw, n, nw, nw, nw, sw, sw, s, w, nw, nw, sw, s, go tavern, You need to drop coins in accordance with your level and type: sing I dance to honor Lord Cholen; Who brings us joy and fun; I sing such greatly praises; Today and forever more; Be joyous for all time, my friends!

The patrons will begin to tap their feet with your tune, and the waitress collects the coins for a round of drinks. Reverse directions to get back to Ta'Vaalor (except go dock instead of go path). Thanks to Kylinarr.

Symbol of Recovery is not very effective. It will restore approximately 10 health points per use. The proper use of the symbol is: symbol of recovery. It will only work on yourself. The cost of this symbol is 24 levels of favor if you are missing any health, otherwise, there is no cost.

5. Symbol of Courage

For this step, you need to honor Lord Jastev.  Directions from Voln: Go path, w, se, s, se, s, s, se, se, s, s, search, go crevasse, se, s, se, s, se, se, go bridge, se, se, go gate, e, e, e, e, e, e, go gate, ne, ne, ne, ne, ne, ne, go path. Recite the following poem: recite Lord Jastev is a sullen soul.;Lord Jastev is artistic indeed.;Lord Jastev is the self-possessed.;Lord Jastev is morbid true,;Lord Jastev is serious, too. Reverse directions to return to Voln for your step. Thanks to Kylinarr.

Symbol of Courage will be one of your favorite symbols (unless you are a pure warding-based spell-caster). It will add 1 point to your Physical and Bolt AS per step, with a maximum of 26. It has a duration of 10 seconds per step, with a maximum of 4:20. This symbol is stackable. The proper syntax for this symbol is: symbol of courage. The cost of this symbol is 24 levels of favor.

6. Symbol of Protection

For this step, you will honor Imaera. You need to get some Imera's Lace and offer it to the lady.  To get the lace, from Victory Court, travel e, e, e, n, e, e, e, n, n, n, go path, s, s, forage lace (where you get deeds).  To get to the altar in Rambling Meadows, from Victory Court, travel w, w, w, go gate, sw, sw, sw, sw, s, sw, s, s, s, s, se, se, e, go gate, sw, s, s, s, s, se, n, n, n.  Have the lace in your hand, kneel and type: offer lace to Imaera. Symbol of Protection will be another of your favorites. It will add 1 point to your Physical and Bolt DS per step, with a maximum of 26. It has a duration of 20 seconds per step, with a maximum of 8:40. This symbol is stackable. The proper syntax for this symbol is: symbol of protection. The cost of this symbol is 24 levels of favor.

7. Charl's Throw I

Charl is pretty fierce, and a stickler for things.  You need a piece of coral for this step.  From the Voln path, travel: w, nw, n, n Then type:  put coral. (For some reason put or drop coral in lake/water does NOT work).  Thanks to Kylinarr and Tarionle.

Charl's Throw I is the precursor to the more powerful second Throw you will learn later. It is only effective if you train in brawling, and works best if both your hands are free. You need to be in stance Forward or greater, and type: throw [critter name] to execute it. It cost no favors to use on undead, but does cost 6 levels of favor when used on live targets. Your MB for throw is generally about 25 points lower than it is for Punch or Kick.

8. Kai's Punch

This is the second Voln Fu step, commonly referred to as "Punch". This step's patron is Kai. You must challenge Kai to a wrestling match.  from Victory Court, travel: e, e, e, n, e, e, e, n, n, go structure, s, go alcove.  Then: say Kai, I challenge you to wrestle!. Defeat Kai and you get the step.  Thanks to Tarionle.

Kai's Punch is the precursor to Kai's Blow (the second Punch symbol). Once again, it is best if you are trained in brawling. You only need one hand free to execute this symbol effectively, be in stance Forward or greater, and type: punch [critter name] to execute it. It cost no favors to use on undead, but does cost 6 levels of favor when used on live targets.

9. Phoen's Kick

Phoen loves to challenge you, and make you go through some pretty perilous places to complete his tasks. You need to bring light to a dark place.  Buy a candle votive from the cleric shop (to get there DIR CLERIC anywhere in town and it's item 1 on the first menu) and go back to the monk, light votive with fire. Directions from Vermillion Gate: Go gate, ne, ne, ne, ne, ne, ne, go path, n, nw, ne, n, n, n, n, n, n, climb steps, and then type: wave votive

Directions out are the same in reverse except after 'go path' it's sw, sw, sw, go bridge, sw, sw, go gate. Thanks to Kylinarr & Haevan.

Phoen's Kick is the precursor to Phoen's Blow (the second kick symbol). Once again, it is best if you are trained in brawling. You only need one hand free to exe cute this symbol effectively, be in st ance Forward or greater, and type: kick [critter name] to execute it. It cost no favors to use on undead, but does cost 6 levels of favor when used on live targets.

10. Symbol of Calming

Lorminstra can usually be found in her temples. You need a fresh herb (surely you have some… if not, then go buy one!). Generally, a nice acantha leaf will work. From the Amaranth Gate, travel east, east, east, east, east, east, south, east, east, south, east, south, south, south, go structure, west(You should be in the altar room). Put your herb of choice on the altar and then pray! Thanks to Darcconis & Mikheall.

Symbol of Calming is useful for calming a swarm of critters in a room. When executed without a target, it will attempt to calm everything and everyone in the room not joined to the caster (this includes other adventurers). It is most effective when used by an pure spiritualist, since it's a spirit based symbol, and will decrease the creatures warding by 30 for the symbol. The correct use of this symbol for a single target is: symbol of calming [critter] and for multiple targets in the room, simply type: symbol of calming. The cost of this symbol is 48 levels of favor.

11. Symbol of Sleep

Ronan is your patron this time.  You need to go see Ronan who is the master of dreams, and take a quick nap.  From Amaranth Gate, travel east, east, east, east, east, east, south, east, east, south, east, south, south, south, go structure, south, go door. Now, lie down and rest. Comfy?  Good.  Ronan will ask you the answer to a riddle.  The answer is, of course, shadow. Thanks to Mikheall & Arthanis.

Symbol of Sleep does not work on undead, contrary to what the monk tells you. It will only work on living creatures. It used to have the ability to affect everything in the room like calming, but now requires a target. It will also work on other adventurers. It is most effective when used by a wizard, but also quite effective for bards and sorcerers, since it's an elemental based symbol. The correct usage of this symbol is: symbol of sleep [critter]. It generally offers an extra reduction to the target's TD of approximately 15-20. The cost of this symbol is 2 levels of favor if successful, but requires 60 to be able to initiate. An unsuccessful or misdirected attempt costs all 60 levels of favor.

12. Symbol of Turning

Lumnis is the patron of this symbol. To complete the next step on the Path to Enlightenment you must accomplish the appointed task. Head to the library in Ta'Illistim and pay proper homage to the banner of knowledge. Your task will become more clear from there.

You'll get asked questions and have to seek the answers out in the various books located in different rooms in the library

A voice twinkles in your ear, "The animals that live and thrive among the forests and glades throughout Elanthia."

Go to hall of fauna and pray.

NOTE: There are other questions and answers, simply find the correct room and pray in it. You DO NOT have to read ANY books.  You'll be asked several questions. The step isn't over until you get the tingling sense of satisfaction. Thanks to Kylinarr and Anonymous for direction update.

Symbol of Turning is very similar to the old cleric repel. It also can affect a single target, or multiple targets. It is most effective when used by a cleric, but is also fairly effective when used by an empath or other pure spiritualist. The correct use for a single target is: symbol of turning [critter] and for multiple targets, simply type: symbol of turning. It will usually offer an extra 20 reduction to the target's TD as well, but requires a 175 outcome to dispatch the undead critter, 101 to 125 will cause it to change stance, 126-150 will generally cause it to run. 151-174 causes it to act as if it's had cleric hold cast on it, dropping it into an offensive stance with a 50 reduction to DS. The cost of this symbol is 72 levels of favor regardless if targeted or not.

13. Symbol of Mana

You will need to appease Koar, the Master of Mana. Directions from Amaranth Gate: e, ne, e, kneel and say "I have come to honor Koar, master of mana." Thanks to Kylinarr.

Symbol of Mana when used, will return 50 mana to you. Generally, it will cost you favor as well as two deeds. Sometimes, you will not lose any deeds, sometimes only 1. There are factors involved including race, level, profession, and the presence of undead. I have heard of people who have used this symbol repeatedly and never lost a deed, but it's always cost me at least one. The proper syntax for this symbol is: symbol of mana. The cost of this symbol is 84 levels of favor.

14. Symbol of Sight

You will once again honor Tonis for this step. To complete the next step on the Path to Enlightenment you must accomplish the appointed task. Travel along Sylvarraend Road till you see a boulder. There, climb the boulder and deliver the message, in the spot where the young lovers used to meet. In that place say this exactly, "You have not been forgotten." You will know if the message has been received."

Symbol of Sight allows you to see the location of a fellow Voln member, provided they are within range. You will continue to be able to see what's going on around the target for a few moments before the image fades. The proper use of this symbol is: symbol of sight [person]. The cost of this symbol is 96 levels of favor.

15. Symbol of Holiness

Eonak guards this step, so you must appease the Lord of Smiths by traveling all the way to Zul Logoth to pray to one of his monuments. If you swing a weapon, you will probably use this symbol quite often. You can use this symbol to bless magical metals (weapons with elemental flares, weighting, sanctified, or have been wizard enchanted will not take a bless). It will also work on regular non-magical weapons as well. It will afford 5 swings per step along the path, for a maximum of 130 swings. This can be increased if the weapon is prepared first with Paladin's Purify spell (up to double depending on their skill). Symbol of Holiness will also, when targeted at an undead creature cause it to burst into flames and fall to the ground, doing damage. To bless your magic metal weapon, type: symbol of holiness my [weapon name]. If you desire to catch a critter on fire, type: symbol of holiness [critter]. The cost of this symbol is 108 levels of favor however you use it.

16. Symbol of Submission

You need to honor Oleani once more for this step. Go to the Jewelry shop in town and purchase a band and ring. (I used wedding band and wedding ring) then Start at Amaranth gate by the guardman. Now, travel nw, nw, go bridge, nw, go trail, sw, w, w, sw, sw, go path, n, n, go building.  Kneel, put the band and ring on the altar, then bow to complete the task. Thanks to Derezz.

Symbol of Submission when failed will cause an undead target to drop to an offensive stance and additionally lower it's physical defense by 1 point per step along the path. If you wish to use this in conjunction with a spell like bind/holding, you need to use the spell first, otherwise, the symbol will have no effect. The proper syntax for using this symbol is: symbol of submission [critter]. The cost of this symbol is 108 levels of favor.

17. Symbol of Restoration

Cholen's second step is designed to teach you humility. But, the upside is you only really have to act silly in front of one other member of Voln. Having one or ten people won't make it go any faster. From Victory Court, the theater is w, w, w, n, w, w, w, n, n, n. Go in the theater and up the stairs. You will need to use the act verb to attempt to make your volunteers laugh. Regular laughing works best with no arguments. You will need to perform five to ten act commands and get laughs, as well as laugh yourself. Eventually, you should hear Cholen laugh with you. Thanks to Milque.

Symbol of Restoration will restore a lot more health than recovery, generally it restores half your missing health points, with a maximum of 50. The proper syntax for this symbol is: symbol of restoration. The cost of this symbol is 120 levels of favor.

18. Symbol of Need

Jastev's second task will show you a prophetic vision. You need to seek out a shrine and touch it. Go out the Amaranth Gate, nw, go bridge, nw, nw, n, Go path, w, w, ne, w ,w touch shrine.Here, you will need to type: touch shrine. You will receive a vision from Jastev and complete the task. Thanks to Milque.

Symbol of Need will allow every single Voln member within your area (Wehnimer's, Icemule, Solhaven, Pinefar, Teras) an image of your current location. There are, however, some locations where this symbol will not function properly. Ones that come to mind is outside Bonespear, near Jantalar, some places on the Moon, and some places in Darkstone. Generally, you would use this symbol when dead to give an idea to others where you are. It can also be used in dire situations when others need to be alerted of impending doom, such as invasions. Useless needs will just irritate people, and they may be less apt to save you when you really need it. The proper syntax for this symbol is: symbol of need. The cost of this symbol is 132 levels of favor.

19. Symbol of Retribution

Once again, Imaera wants you to patronize her. Directions from Victory Gate: go gate, sw, sw, sw, sw, sw, s, sw, s, s, s, s, s, s, e, e, e, go gate, sw, s, s, s, s, se, n, n, kneel, pray shrine, bow deer. Thanks to Kylinarr et. al.

Symbol of Retribution is a symbol that can only be used when dead. It will allow you to send ripples of essence towards undead targets. It used to affect all undead in a room at once, but now must be targeted on a specific critter. You used to be able to use this to be raised with a full mind, but this was recently nerfed, so there is no practical use for it unless your rescuers are in trouble. The proper syntax for this symbol is: symbol of retribution [critter]. The cost of this symbol is 144 levels of favor.

20. Charl's Throw II

Obviously, you will need to honor Charl again for this step. Directions from voln: Go path, w, nw, n, n, type: put (100 coins times level) silver. Thanks to Kylinarr.

This throw works identical to the one you learned in Step 7, but it is a bit more powerful.

21. Kai's Blow

Be prepared for a very rough journey to complete this task. You have to travel to the rancid pool in Zul Logoth and drop a broadsword into it. 22. Phoen's Blow

Once again, you must honor Phoen, and this is the very last Voln Fu steps. This one is apparently another tribulation.  You must take a lit votive (or use the spell Light) and go to Ta'Illistim.  From the gate travel sw,w,w,s,sw,e,se,s,se,se,se,e,se,se, go path, ne, se, climb tree, ne, ne, n, nw, sw, w, nw, climb trunk, go hut, n, go doorway, wave candle votive, or your spell. This kick works identical to the one you learned in Step 9, but it is a bit more powerful.

23. Symbol of Preservation

Once again, you need to honor the Lady Lorminstra.  You must give one of your deeds to one who has no deeds.  Grab someone, and head to the Temple.  From Victory Court, travel e, e, e, n, e, e, e, n, n, go structure, w to the altar, then recite/say Lorminstra, give [person] my deed. You need at least two deeds as you cannot give away your last one.

Symbol of Preservation will allow you to lifekeep yourself for approximately 30 seconds per step along the Path of Enlightenment, with a maximum of 13 minutes, allowing preservation until a cleric can render assistance. The proper syntax for this symbol for yourself is: symbol of preservation. If you wish to keep someone else: symbol of preservation [person]. The cost of this symbol is 156 levels of favor.

24. Symbol of Dreams

You once again need to honor Ronan for this step.  Get it over with! Just JUMP on into the pit.  Now, SEARCH, STAND, and GO through the DOOR. You should feel all tingly and missing one sense.  Try SNIFFing around, and then GO towards the BATTLEFIELD.  Again, you will find yourself deprived of another sense.  Try to LISTEN to anything distinct and GO towards the NIGHTINGALE.  You should now be facing the Good Lord Ronan.  He has a test for you, and you must pay attention.  If he feints or moves left or right, you LEAN in the opposite direction.  If he glances at your feet, then JUMP.  If he holds a weapon leveled at your head, then DUCK.  If he has a speak aimed at your chest, then FALL.  If he puts you to sleep, then ROLL.  (If you discover any more, please send them in.)  Have fun!  Thanks to Sindir for a full log.

Symbol of Dreams is another very useful symbol. It will allow you to recover mana and spirit during the duration of its use. Plus, you get to have some very interesting dreams. The correct syntax for this symbol is: symbol of dreams. The cost of this symbol is 168 levels of favor.

25. Symbol of Return

You will need to honor Lumnis again for this step. The following was sent to me anonymously and will have to do until someone sends something more complete.

The monk gives you a glowing Lumnis medallion, and instructs you to take it to five locations and read the medallion. Even though the monk tells you that the medallion is not to leave your hand, wearing it will not cause trouble. In fact, there is one part where you HAVE to wear it in order to proceed further. The locations may be in a different order for you as it seems they may change from person to person. Do them in the order that you are given them.

The first location is in Sylvarraend. From the bank in Sylvarraend, go south twice, southeast, east, north, then go path. Be sure to note that even though the path is not visible or part of the room description, it really is there. Read the medallion.

Go back to the ferry and return to Ta'Vaalor. Go to the main room of Victory Court (the one with the bench), and go one north. Read the medallion.

At this point, it's smart to have two thousand silver with you already in order to keep all of the backtracking to a minimum. The third location is near the entrance of Cysaegir. I may be wrong, but I believe that from outside the Cysaegir bank, it's go arch, go drawbridge, then east. The title of the room has something like "Rainbow Falls" in it. Read the medallion.

The fourth location is in Zul Logoth. Again, it's okay to wear the medallion, as your hands must be free in order to climb the paths before the carts. After exiting the cart, go arch, west, southwest three times, west, north twice, west, northwest, southwest, south, east, south, southwest, go arch, south, southeast twice, then go crevice. Read the medallion. (You might want to check those directions yourself. Regardless, the location is right on the other side of the crevice, which is the entrance to the troll burial grounds)

Finally, leave Zul Logoth and go to Ta'Illistim. Once in town, go to the dais and read the medallion one last time. This completes the task and causes the medallion to become a "dull Lumnis medallion." Go back to the monk to recieve the symbol of return. The medallion is yours to keep, though as far as I know, it no longer serves any purpose other than being a token or souvenir. Thanks to Anonymous Source.

Symbol of Return will generally fog you and your group to Voln (in the landing), the Temple (on Teras), Liabo Esplanade (in Solhaven), Voln (in Icemule), or other points depending upon where it's used. There are some places where it will only fog just YOU and not your group. This includes such places as Varunar, the Solhaven Trail, the Icemule Trail, and Shadow Valley. The correct syntax for this symbol is: symbol of return. The cost of this symbol is 204 levels of favor.

26. Symbol of Invitation

There is no task for this step. Consider it a gift for working so hard. Symbol of Invitation allows you to invite someone into the Order, much as the Grizzled Warrior does.

The proper use of this symbol is: invite [person]. Please note you cannot use this at a table or in a room in which you can enter a table or booth. This symbol requires no favor.
